Orion Racing India – Formula Student Racing Team
Role: Embedded System Engineer
Duration: May 2022 - August 2023
Project Overview
Orion Racing India is a student-led Formula SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) team where we designed, built, and raced high-performance Formula-style cars in international competitions. My role in the team involved hands-on work in ECU (Electronic Control Unit) and Data Acquisition, contributing to the development of a cutting-edge race car that performed in high-stakes events.
Responsibilities
Managed the Electronic Control Unit (ECU), Telemetry, Driver's Interface, and Data Acquisition systems for the electric vehicle.
Led the design and execution of electronic systems to improve vehicle performance.
Collaborated with cross-functional teams to overcome technical challenges.
Played a key role in advancing the project during Formula Student competitions.
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge 1: Integrating real-time data from the telemetry system into the driver’s interface.
Solution: Optimized data acquisition processes and improved system synchronization, enabling smoother and more accurate data display for the driver during races.
Challenge 2: Ensuring reliable ECU performance under high-speed conditions.
Solution: Redesigned the ECU layout and implemented better thermal management, resulting in stable performance even under extreme conditions.
Impact
My experience at Orion Racing India helped me develop a deep understanding of engineering design, real-time problem-solving, and team dynamics under pressure. It also strengthened my ability to work within a project-based framework while balancing multiple responsibilities, which has proven invaluable in my later projects, especially in UX design and product development.
